A GREAT DOG BEGINS WITH A GREAT OWNER.

Top 10 Puppy Care Tips

  1. Puppy-proof your home! Puppies go through teething just like babies! Pups are biologically predisposed to munch on anything and everything to help them cut their teeth. Hide or put away anything you would not want a toddler eating or pulling. Survey the area when you’re done on hands and knees (his eye level) to make sure you’ve removed all intended items.
  2. Introduce your family slowly. Let your new furbaby adjust to your normal routine for a couple weeks then gradually make the rounds. In fact, you’re better off taking things slowly at home, too. Resident pets should make short “visits” to his kennel for a couple of days to sniff him out before you allow them to play together. Always monitor your furbaby.
  3. Never feed your Frenchie human food. Their food is specially formulated based on your puppy’s weight and nutritional needs. It should include a perfect balance of protein & carbs.
  4. Housetraining properly is key. Take the time early on to housebreak your Frenchie in an appropriate fashion. This requires discipline on your part—just about every hour. Don’t forget to reward them when they do his/her business in the right place. Even if it is 3 a.m., you want to encourage that he did the right thing by waking you up.
  5. Socialize your French Bulldog. Introduce your puppy to different people under supervision. Take time now to regularly go to the park for play dates so that your pup has the opportunity to meet and greet many different types of individuals—human and canine alike.
  6. Teach obedience! You’ll enjoy your pup much more if they are not driving you mad with their barking, jumping, or begging. Spend time each day giving him lessons on how to be quiet, come, sit, stay, etc.
  7. If you are now a proud furbaby parent to a female and unsure about breeding, it is recommended you research this option. Breeding is a full-time job, especially for French Bulldogs.
  8. Becoming parents to a male Frenchie has options. He could possibly become a STUD, or maybe you only want him to be your new family member. If you are choosing to neuter your French Bulldog, please make sure he is at the correct age to do so, per your veterinarian’s instructions.
  9. Exercise is very important. Puppies need a decent amount of exercise to stay in good physical and mental health. Frenchies have fairly minimal exercise needs, but do require at least daily walks or outdoor play. In addition, Frenchies are top heavy and therefore have a difficult time swimming, lifejackets should be worn and watched at all times. Precautions must be taken when exercising a Frenchie during hot or humid weather, as well. Please do not have them outdoors for long periods of time.
  10. Make time to play with your Frenchie. Puppies need your undivided attention for some time each day. Relax with your Frenchie by throwing a ball, teaching a new trick or cuddling in bed with him. Studies have shown that developing relationships with animals relieves stress thus leading to improved human health.

Puppy Do’s and Dont’s

  • Do take your puppy to the vet at the appropriate age for your puppies next shots.
  • Don’t put your puppy on the ground where unknown animals have been until he’s
had all his puppy shots. This is how he picks up diseases.
  • Do Introduce loud noises (vacuum cleaners, hair driers, etc.) carefully and
slowly. Lifetime phobias for your puppy are imprinted during these early months.
  • Don’t allow your puppy to become unnecessarily frightened in his first few
    months of life.
  • Do make sure your puppy gets lots of rest because they can get tired quickly.
  • Do make sure your puppy interacts with friendly and safe playmates.
  • Don’t allow your puppy around dogs you don’t know to be safe and friendly or
around rough children. Frenchies are fragile.
  • Do reward good behavior when you are crate training.
  • Don’t ignore your puppy’s whining when confined in the crate. Take your Frenchie out to go potty, even if it hasn’t been long since his last visit outside and you suspect they only want attention. If he goes to the bathroom outside, praise him and allow him to remain out of his crate for a while. If he doesn’t go potty outside, return him to the crate. However, don’t reward your puppy for whining by taking him out of his crate just to play or cuddle.
  • Do set rules, boundaries, and limitations. Accustom your puppy to quiet times
and being alone for short periods of time. This will prevent separation anxiety
    later.
  • Don’t allow your puppy to feel abandoned by leaving him unattended for long periods of time.
  • Do praise your puppy for good behavior and praise often.
  • Don’t let your puppy do things that you don’t want them to do as an adult dog.
  • Do take your puppy to lots of new places (When fully vaccinated).
  • Don’t wait to start training and socializing your new puppy. The first few months are a critical period in his development and you can’t get this time back!
  • When speaking to your puppy, always use the same command words with the same tone level!
  • Never leave your furbaby in your vehicle when the temperatures increase, it is Summer, not Winter! If you leave your windows cracked air does not flow like an air conditioner, remember, you wouldn’t want to sit in the vehicle with no A/C, so why would you leave your animal like that? The dangers of heat should never be underestimated never leave your furbaby alone in a car even for short periods of time!
  • Frenchie’s love to chew on ice! We give our furbabies crushed ice to chew on when they have their playtime outside
  • DO NOT let your French Bulldog eat grapes or raisins! Poisoning can occur following ingestion of seedless or seeded grapes, commercial or homegrown fruits; red or green grapes/raisins, organic or non-organic fruits, and grape pressings from wineries, basically NO GRAPES even in the grape family-like raisins, no, no and no! All foods containing grapes, raisins, and currants (such as raisin bran cereal, trail mix, granola mix, baked goods) are all are sources of poison
  • Remember, French Bulldogs don’t only need love but also a little bit of exercise lightly walking your Frenchie approximately 30 minutes flat land not uphill! Alternatives to walking are the famous doggy treadmill, playing tug-of-war, fetch with a frizz-bee or a ball or hide-n-go-seek with hiding their treats around your house, it’s also playing time inside or outside!” do consult with your veterinarian.
  • Always make sure to keep all cords, cables, phone lines, etc securely tucked away to avoid any sort of preventable accidents!
  • Brushing your FurBaby Frenchie daily will leave their area less messy!
  • Not all French Bulldogs are sociable with other dogs! It’s a good idea to not only know your surroundings before taking out your FurBaby but also know their personality first.
  • French Bulldogs are inside furamily and sleepers they are not outdoor dogs! Your new Furamily are like children’s without the backtalk 😂
  • It’s a good idea to keep your Frenchies teeth clean! Recommended brushing your dog’s teeth at least every other day, always using a French Bulldog friendly toothpaste. Make sure to brush all sides, top and bottom of all teeth, should not take a long time at all. If necessary, from time to time you can take your Frenchie to a veterinarian for a professional teeth cleaning too!
